SAP Central Process Scheduling (SAP CPS), is a real time event driven process scheduler incorporated into SAP ERP components. It automates the background jobs, eliminates errors when processing jobs and overall makes the system much more efficient.

SAP CPS is now a standard component of the SAP NetWeaver platform. Its capabilities allow customers to centrally automate and manage all of their background processes and automate business solutions running on top of the SAP NetWeaver platform. These applications include SAP Solution Manager and SAP Closing Cockpit. These solutions use the SAP CPS component to extend their own functionality, especially towards cross-system and non-SAP applications.

SAP CPS is an offshoot of Redwood Software, which was purchased by SAP AG. It is documented that in future releases SM36/37 which manage SAP Jobs are to be retired.

SAP CPS is 'Web Dynapro' based. So each process 'Schedule a job' etc creates is own Explorer Window.

It comes in two versions 1. Free, which can only be installed on one SAP Instance. 2. Purchased version. The rough cost is 7,000$ for Enterprise License. This install can schedule and monitor jobs across the landscape of SAP Instances.

This product is intended to compete with Tivoli 'Maestro' Job Scheduling softare and is similar in look in feel.

Installation is rather cumbersome and involves JAVA and ABAP roles, security and authorizations.
