Party for National Unity and Democracy
The Party for National Unity and Democracy (Commonly: PUND–Salama, fr:Parti pour l’unité nationale et la démocratie) is a small political party in the West African State of Niger. It's slogan "Salama", is an Arabic loan word meaning "Peace" in the Hausa language. The party was one of two parties active in the National Assembly of Niger during the Third Republic (1993-1996) which relied on a base among the Tuareg and other communities of the north of the nation.[1]
It won three seats in the 12 January 1995 elections where it joined the Alliance of the Forces of Change coalition of President Mahamane Ousmane, the first and last time it achieved national office.[2]
