The Budapest Declaration on Machine Readable Travel Documents[1] is a Public declaration that was issued by the NoE FIDIS[2] to raise the concern to the public to the risks associated by a security architecture related to the management of Machine Readable Travel Documents (MRTDs), and its current implementation in the European passport that creates some threats related to identity theft, and privacy.

This declaration was proclaimed in Budapest in September 2006, by a group of researchers from the FIDIS Network of Excellence.

The Budapest Declaration has received an important coverage from the press (newspapers [3][4], radio[5], television).
