A complex sequence is called a polyphase sequence if the elements can be represented as a complex root of unity, i.e., $a_{n}=e^{i{\frac {2\pi }{q}}x_{n}}$ .

Polyphase sequences is an important class of sequences and play important roles in synchronizing sequence design.
