There is a list of existing map tutorials, further more are welcome ! French users have provide somes, and traductions into English would be welcome.

To obtain some SVG map background, the best place are the category SVG maps, and even more Location_maps (2008 standard) and their respective sub-pages. The Map conventions and toolbox are also providing 6 helpful conventions, some strongly supported by specific teams. The tutorials below follow the learning way of an hypothetical new map maker, more you go down, more that's complex... and beautiful ;)

Demonstration how an SVG map is build layer after layer:

Note: Inkscape is downloadable here, for free. That's a vector editor convenient, free, that most wikigraphists use.
