Short term memory(STM)

· Acoustic / Oral

· Limited time - 30 seconds;

· Limited size - 7 items + or - 2 (Miller)

· Trace Decays

· Use of Distractor tasks: counting backwards in 3s - very simple recall tasks (three letters) became much harder; after 18 seconds only 10% of trigrams correctly recalled.

· Chunking massively increases - size of STM

· Possible need to translate screens into acoustic information
