Rod graduated with his M.F.A at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y. He began his work in the arts at Shapolsky Gallery. He taught at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, Hofstra University Long Island and the New College San Francisco, CA.

Rod served as the Director of the Cartoon Art Museum. His involvement with the Museum spurred a subsidy program for small non-profit arts organizations in S.F. His innovative art programs for children and youth both at the museum and at community based organizations showed his steadfast commitment to sharing his love of learning through art in whatever form it takes. His commitment to the San Francisco Art community will be felt by many generations to come.
