Conversion to Islam
Appearance
Forced conversion is not part of Islamic teachings. This is based on the Koranic verse "There is no compulsion in religion" (Chapter 2, verse 256). Attempts to force people to convert is considered a grevious sin in Islam. That is why during Muslim rule in Spain, many Jews and Christians were able to practice their faiths. Moses Maimonides being chief physician to Saladin, the famous Muslim warrior and Ruler of Jerusalem, whilst still practising his Jewsih faith is also evidence of religious freedom under Muslim rule. In fact according to many historians, the Jewish Golden Age was actually under Muslim rule.
