A Digital Object Identifier (DOI) is a unique identifier to a published work, similar in concept to an ISBN.

How to use DOIs in content

Wikipedia supports automatic linking of DOI references using the template {{doi}} as follows:

  • {{doi|10.1016/j.iheduc.2008.03.001}}

Which translates to:

  • Error: Bad DOI specified!

An alternate approach is to use CitationBot to improve the link still further:

  • {{cite journal|10.1016/j.iheduc.2008.03.001}}

which will be parsed to:

  • {{cite journal}}: Empty citation (help)
