Camcon binary actuator
The Camcon Binary Actuator can be utilised in a variety of industries, enabling oil and gas operators to recover up to 30 per cent more of a well's reserves, car manufacturers to improve engine performance and reduce exhaust emissions by up to 20 per cent, and aircraft manufacturers to reduce the noise emitted by jet engine blades by more than 20 decibels. Fundamental principles
Using a combination of springs and magnets, the Camcon Binary Actuator's patented design enables:
High speed Camcon's Binary Actuator configurations are capable of operating at speeds of up to 4,000Hz, 20 times faster than current valve systems. Using a short electrical pulse, the binary actuators reaction time may be as short as 100µs, allowing the flow management of gases and liquids with a freedom hitherto unobtainable.
Low energy consumption An electric current is only required to change the state of the Camcon Binary Actuator. Only a small quantum of energy (as low as 3mJ) is required to effect the switching action, which is equivalent to the power required to drive a small flashlight for a fraction of a second.
Low heat dissipation The low energy demand of Camcon's Binary Actuator results in low heat dissipation, which is particularly valuable when managing the flow of low-temperature liquids and gases. It is also an advantage when larger numbers of actuators need to be packaged in a confined space.
Long life Following extensive laboratory trials, a pair of Camcon pneumatic valves have each achieved more than 10 billion (1010 ) cycles of operation. They show little sign of wear and the technology may offer a service life 3,000 times greater than the service life of conventional actuators.
