Second-Third Tier

Correct, the term "tier" can have different contexts, but in the commercial manufacturing or supply context, it is based on objective criteria such as business scope, market integration, and market share, not differences in 'quality' or perceptions thereof. First tier motherboard manufacturers are ASUS (now Pegatron), ECS, MSI, and Gigabyte (by units shipped). If you include Foxconn (which usually is not included by many industry analysts for reasons I won't go into here), then Foxconn would be #2 behind ASUS/Pegatron. These four (alternatively five) manufacturers account for something like 85% of the global motherboard market. Replaced Taiwanese ECS Entry

The original (as last edited) version of this page was substituted by an entry advertising a Pakistani engineering firm. The entry and short history of the Taiwanese/Chinese ECS firm is incredibly important when trying to trace the correct supplier of Hsing motherboard BIOS updates.

In any case this is not the correct place to advertise Pakistani companies as this page is part of the Taiwan project, I believe.

I have replaced the page with the most recent edit, and would request that it be kept focussed on the original corporate group for the benefit of the millions of legacy computer owners who may need to source bios updates.
