Generating Availability Data System
The Generating Availablility Data System (GADS) is a database produced by the North American Eletricity Reliability Council. It includes annual summary reports comprising the statistics for power stations in the United States and Canada.[1]
GADS is the main source of power station outage data in North America. It comprises the generating unit availability for over 90% of the total installed generating capacity of the continent, and tracks a large number of variables, providing detailed descriptions of unit operations and outage conditions. One example of such detail is that in its data pertaining to forced outages and unplanned unit failures, it makes the fine distinctino between immediate, delayed, and postponed outages.[2]
The most important of the variables included in the GADS data is the Equivalent Forced Outage Rate (EFOR), which is the hours of unit failure (unplanned outage hours and equivalent unplanned derated hours) given as a percentage ot the total hours of the availability of that unit (unplaned outage, unplanned derated, and service hours).[2]
