I don't like the red error message that appears when there is no <references /> tag on a page, which seems to be the general consensus, but the text should be added back into this page, because the error "Cite error:" still appears. At least with the text, editors can tell what the actual error is. Another option would be to blank the text in MediaWiki:Cite error, although I'm not quite sure if that's linked to this?
