Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Nichalp (talk | contribs) at 11:47, 28 January 2009 (Jaakovs → MASQUERAID: see no problem). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Simple username changes

This page hosts simple requests for a username change across the Wikimedia network. Requests are processed by stewards and global renamers.

Instructions
  1. Read Wikipedia:Changing username carefully. You must be aware of and understand all the implications of changing your username. Specifically:
    • Your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited, and in all log entries.
    • Your user pages, account preferences, and edits will be moved to the new name. Please do not create a new account or attempt to move them yourself.
    • Links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be created pointing to your new userpage.
    • Understand that using your real name as your username may put you at risk of harassment.
  2. Read the username policy and ensure your new name does not violate it. Usernames must not:
  3. Check that your new username is not already in use by searching for it on Special:CentralAuth. If the name is registered, even on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
If the target name hasn't made any edits to any Wikimedia project, you may request usurpation at meta:Steward requests/Username changes.
  4. Log in with your current username. Requests will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Place your request here.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=.
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=. Requests without a valid reason will not be approved.
    • Do not change anything else.
  6. Select Publish changes.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any inquiries regarding your request. Consider watching the page so you can monitor updates. Requests may be closed if there are unresolved queries.

Requests that do not follow these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

For stewards, global renamers, and clerks

Only stewards and global renamers have the authority to approve or decline requests. Requests are automatically clerked by a bot, but occasionally human intervention is required, particularly for malformed requests. If you would like to help out with clerking, please see Wikipedia:Changing username/Assistance.

Current requests

St. Elizabeth's → St. Elizabeth's Dahlonega, Georgia

Your userpage should be about you, as a contributor to Wikipedia, and not about your church. Also, your account should be yours, used only by you (a single person), and not by various people "speaking for" your church. If you think your church is notable enough for an article in Wikipedia, please create the article in the main (article) namespace (see Wikipedia:Namespace for details), and not on your userpage. If you'd like to be renamed to something other than the name of your church -- your name, or your favorite nickname, or a clever handle of some kind -- let me know. — Dan | talk 21:40, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not done Sorry, but your username appears promotional. bibliomaniac15 03:08, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jvella7 → acmilanokaka22

Bureaucrat note: Please confirm that you have read the various warnings placed on your user talk page and will adhere to our policies. Kingturtle (talk) 08:02, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

ConceptualArtsJDE → JeanJacques

Bureaucrat note: There is a JeanJacques account on the Dutch Wikipedia that has more edits than you do. Is this you? If not, please request a new username... though, as you don't have any real edits to the project (just your userpage, talkpage, and this request), you can just register a new account. • SoxBot has evaluated this request, and a problem(s) was found. Target username exists, and while it has no edits, the user requesting it is too new to usurp an account. Requesting user has 1 edit, to this page only. SoxBot VI (talk) 16:51, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: Where is your home wiki? None of the accounts you listed have any significant edits that I can tell, and none show up in your SUL report (though the servers are out of date, which could be the problem there). We'll also need evidence from your home wiki that "Faisalmurad1" is owned by the same person. EVula // talk // // 17:44, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bedfordgroup → Megan W

I would like to use my own name now.

Please log in as User:Bedfordgroup and sign your name here with four tildes (~~~~). J.delanoygabsadds 22:06, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note: Hi Megan, User:Juliancolton unblocked you so you can confim your request here, login to Bedfordgroup and click on [edit] by the Bedfordgroup → Megan W title then sign your name with four tildes (~~~~), then you should be renamed shortly. Regards, Matt (Talk) 04:55, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sac1128 → SCharron

Bureaucrat note: On the fr.wiki a SCharron had five edits in 2005. Kingturtle (talk) 15:18, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Davidsperry → David Sperry

Clerk note: Please read the Wikipedia policy about conflicting interests. Useight (talk) 20:12, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Chris Leonidou → L07chleo3

  •  Clerk note: It is not possible to merge accounts, but it may simply be that the request for the accounts to be 'merged' is a mistake, since the latter account does not exist. neuro(talk) 02:11, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: Chris, you must be referring to User:L07ChLeo3...But I am still confused by the request. Do you want User:L07ChLeo3 to become User:Chris Leonidou, perhaps? Kingturtle (talk) 16:19, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

AQu01rius → Alessa

Bureaucrat note: User:Alessa already exists. Was that your creation? If you want to retire User:AQu01rius into obscurity, we can change it to a generic unused name. Kingturtle (talk) 12:50, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note: Or if you want to keep your account history tied to Alessa, make the request on WP:USURP to have the account usurped by the new account, then log into both accounts and sign the request. (Continue to use the old account to make any edit changes, you don't want to create any GDLF significant edits with the Alessa account... but based upon the fact that the Alessa account is 3 years old, I'm guessing it isn't you. In which case you can place a usurp request to get it.)---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 16:48, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mlehri → MiastaoSturey

887mhz → Nyota

Clerk note: It's not just that your userpage is being used to promote this radio station, the username you want also promotes that radio station. Please see the policy at WP:IU, regarding promotional usernames listed as a type of inappropriate username. This request also has the added problem that User:Nyota already exists and has edited. Useight (talk) 22:28, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note:While the Nyota user name has made edits, it is only one minor edit in 2007, and could potentially be WP:USURPed, but if it is seen as being usurped for promotional purposes, it will be denied.---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 22:49, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not done As Balloonman has stated, take it to WP:USURP. Kingturtle (talk) 03:25, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

887mhz → N

Clerk note: Sorry this has been so complicated. First, your page shouldn't be at User:887mhz. That is supposed to be the place where you write something about yourself. If you want to write about a radio station, it should probably be at Nyota Radio Télévision. You'll notice that link is red because the page doesn't exist yet. The material about the radio station should go there. However, the wording has to be neutral, which you have worked on, with edits such as this, and the article must give evidence as to why this particular radio station is notable. If these criteria aren't met, the page could be deleted. Useight (talk) 23:48, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not done Sorry to keep doing this, but User:N is taken. Kingturtle (talk) 03:27, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jaakovs → MASQUERAID

Bureaucrat note: I don't see any edits Jaakovs has made that involve issues or discussions at http://masqueraid.livejournal.com/profile . I'd be happy with a simple promise from Jaakovs that MASQUERAID would not be used for commercial or promotional purposes, if indeed Jaakovs runs that livejournal. AS for the all-caps, usernames (such as Brion VIBBER and MONGO) and all-cap signatures (LittleMountain5) are in use, so that's not a red flag for me. Kingturtle (talk) 14:26, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Persuasive. Hope you don't mind, but I'll wait for a third Crat opinion, as it's been suggested in the past that I am a bit quick off the mark when asking for comment. --Dweller (talk) 14:33, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have no connection to that website and I wasn't even aware of its existence. Instead, my suggestion for a new username stemmed from my appeal to the sound of 'masquerade'; since that username is already in use, I took up a punny misspelling of it. I'd happy to take 'masquerade', but I don't know if I'd qualify for that usurpation. On another note, I'd be content with an all-caps version, or a version with a small first letter -- as long as it's not "Masqueraid". Jaakovs (talk) 15:22, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What's the status of this request now? Jaakovs (talk) 21:19, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note:We can't do usernames with a lowercase first letter, ruling out both "masquerade" and "mASQ<whatever>". "Masquerade" is, as you guessed, not an easy option. Where we're at is that I'm inclined to approve your original request, per Kingturtle, but I'm waiting on a third opinion. Is there a rush? There aren't many active Bureaucrats on English Wikipedia. I'll go see if I can rouse one. --Dweller (talk) 11:36, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
 Bureaucrat note: I don't see a problem with this request. Evula.com exists and is operated by a friendly 'crat. :) =Nichalp «Talk»= 11:47, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Crudpoos → Sparklymaybell

Bureaucrat note: Do you intend to actually work to improve the encyclopedia? Your only edits thus far have been to create a vaguely spammish userpage and request this rename. EVula // talk // // 17:03, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
