JavaStation

The JavaStation is a Network Computer (NC), that has been developed by Sun Microsystems between 1996 and 2000.

The hardware has been based on the design of the Sun SPARCStation, a very succesful architecture of UNIX workstations. The JavaStation, as a NC, lacks a Harddisk, floppy- and cdrom-drive. It also differs from many SPARC computers because it has a standard PC PS/2 interface and a VGA connector.

Flavors

There are several "flavors" of the JavaStation:

  • The JavaStation-1 aka "Mr. Coffee"
  • The JavaStation-NC aka "Mr. Krups"
  • The JavaStation-E aka "Espresso"
  • The JavaEngine-1 aka "JE-1"
  • The "Dover" JavaStation
  • The The Generation 3 "Super JavaStation"
  • The The Pre-Mr. Coffee JavaStation Prototype
  • The JavaStation "Fox".

Operating Systems

The JavaStation comes with JavaOS in the flash memory, but it's also possible to install Linux or NetBSD on the JavaStation.
