Caelius Rhodiginus
Caelius Rhodiginus was a Venetian writer, born about 1450 (some accounts say 1469), died 1525.
His original name was Ludovico or Lodovico Celio Ricchieri. He studied at Ferrara and Padua, and he was for a time a professor in the Academy at Milan. He took the name Rhodiginus from his birthplace, Rovigo. (Hugh James Rose, A New General Biographical Dictionary,1853) his pupil Julius Caesar Scaliger described him as the Varro of his age.
