Article list

As you can see from this project home page, I have created a page with a list of the articles that were (may still be) tagged under WP:THOMAS that are now in the hands of this project. –MDCollins (talk) 12:25, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you but this page is enough for a simple project. This project is not to be involved with the Thomas project. I do not want a page saying it was under WikiThomas. Plus unlike the Thomas project this is underpopulated. Driveus — Preceding unsigned comment added by Driveus (talkcontribs) 22:21, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's fine - I was merely clearing the information from WP:Thomas. What you choose to do with it is up to you. I felt it might be useful for you to be able to use Special:Recentchangeslinked/Wikipedia:WikiProject TUGS/Article list in order to see what changes have been made by your members or vandals to the pages under your control. The redirects are listed there in order that they show up on this list (if, for example, somebody changes a redirect and creates a duplicate page in the wrong place). If this tool is not 'Useful' to you, that's fine. Maybe other members of your project might use it. If not, that is nothing to do with me. Other projects like to see a list of which pages they are working with. If your small page is not one of these, then fine. And also, I was not saying "it was under WikiThomas", I meant these articles were (past tense) under the control of WP:Thomas, but are now under the care of WP:TUGS. Therefore, WP:Thomas will have no more to do with these, unless any members are involved in both projects.
I hope this clears it up, there is no need to speak to me on my talk page for trying to be helpful.
Good luck with the work, I see there is a lot that needs doing.

Best Wishes from WP:THOMAS

You will see that I have re-worded some of the sections on your project page. This was necessary as readers unfamiliar with the two projects might 'get the wrong idea'. I'm afraid our styles of English are very different, so you may want to adjust the wording to hide the joins!

I think you may have misunderstood the views of the currently-active members of WP:THOMAS. "TUGS" was included in 'our' project due to it sharing a production team. Any additional programmes, such as those listed here, were too far removed from Thomas the Tank Engine to be considered part of the project. There is also the small matter that the active WP:THOMAS members know little or nothing about TUGS. So you see, we are very glad to be able to pass on the pages to a group who will look after them properly.

All the best with getting TUGS to Featured status!

Hey guys I'm back. Don't let the WIkibreak template on my page fool you. Driveus 19:56, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Children's TV in the UK Project

Zesty Prospect and I are trying to start a WikiProject incorperating all Children's TV that were first screened in the UK as some of the articles are in a pretty desperate state. We'd like to co-operate with the TUGS WikiProject. If you're interested in signing up go to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals page and it says Children's television programme's in the united kingdom and northern ireland. 3 more signatures are needed. Thanks, Soopa hoops77 12:45, 25 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I joined. But why Northern Ireland? Driveus

Should we?

Do you think we should make a former members section? Someport and 5cran9 quit and Bob 2.0 might be next due to his vandalism. I hope no one else goes. Driveus

  • It's official, now Bob 2.0 is out of the project.User:Driveus
Ditch the former members section, we don't want to associate with people who were just here to mess up the page. --SteelersFan UK06 01:28, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:PROD nominations

Yep, that was me, in case anyone hasn't noticed, having a page on the Star Tugs fleet is irrelevant since all it does is list all the Tugs. You can get all of these details on the individual pages. This is what i think anyways. --SteelersFan UK06 01:28, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

air dates

I've been watching a number of the edits which are taking place recently to the TUGS pages, and one thing that i am sure is going to start an edit war is the original air date of the show. IP addresses have been changing the original air date to 1988 and others have been changing it to 1989 (see here followed by next edit here). what WAS the original air date of the program? See, as far as i can see, the only sound source we have is TV.com, and that says '89. Remember the first line of WP:V, "Wikipedia is about verifiability, not truth". Any comments (IP or otherwise) welcomed. --SteelersFan UK06 01:20, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I guess theres no way to tell if the airdates are accurate enough whether on this site or otherwise. Driveus

Scope/Plans

I am concerned about the "plans" of this project to "Protect" articles, I think the project may have issues with WP:OWN. Also, what is meant by "help with the DVD campaign?" Please respond asap. IvoShandor 02:49, 26 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about that, the creator of this project, Driveus, sort of....quickly set everything up and it hasn't been done very well (no offence there). But the articles...basically a number of IP addresses seem to flock towards this project and add not only blatant vandalism to the articles (which i'm sure is bad enough), but stuff which they think is true about the program, such as "this character looks like" or "if there was a second season then...". I wouldn't say it was about ownership, we're more just trying to do what - well, everyone else is trying to do, stop vandals on Wikipedia.
As for the DVD campaign, a nunber of users have been trying, for a very long time now, to persuade whoever owns the rights to this TV program (it is unknown right now) to produce it on DVD format, since all it was released on was VHS. The topic is located at the Thomas-specific forum, Sodor Island Forums under the heading "Bigg City Port". You must be a registered user to use the forum. (Tugs did used to have its own forum but it is currently "down for maintenance"). Recently, the forum has taken a slight breakthrough with a step further towards who owns the rights to the TV show. So apologies if people are getting a bit excited about things :)
Thank you for taking an active interest in our project. Although I may not be the most active in the TUGS DVD campaign, I know a lot about the series and am trying to submit that information here. I have only recently (in the past day in fact) joined the above forum, so i am just getting to grips with it. Hopefully someone with more knowledge on the DVD campign will comment here also. --SteelersFan UK06 15:28, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that on the main TUGS page, it says that there are currently no plans to release TUGS on DVD. This isn't true, is it?--S.C.Ruffeyfan 19:48, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Theodore Tugboat

Why would TT be part of the project? We could start a seperate project for it, couldn't we? --S.C.Ruffeyfan 11:55, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

TUGS project call-to-arms

Hi, I'm Chris, i go by the name of SteelersFan_UK06. I've only recently started editing again after a ten month break. I used to contribute to this project quite a lot, so i think now its time to get things a wee bit back on track.

First of all, I'd like to put a call out to all members who would consider themselves active in the project. Now and again, my watchlist changes showing that more users have added their name to the project page, but I have no idea who's just adding it for the sake of it, or who's actually actively making edits. If you would say you were active in this project, leave a note after this message saying that you're still here to help.

Secondly, and this is a more obvious one, but these articles require quite a clean up. While I was away, a number of articles under the TUGS hood have been either PROD'd or AfD'd, which I would have protested had i been around. Captain Zero (TUGS), Izzy Gomez (TUGS) and a few others have all disappeared. To save this continuing, we have to increase the information in the articles, and make sure its not utter rubbish at that. Here's what i think we need to do:

  1. Trim and merge all episode pages. As you may have noticed on the "Jinxed" AfD, these pages are going to be deleted if we don't do something about them, but i agree that this should take place. I think this a good way to work against some of the non-notable information which is included in the articles, and any special information can be included in each individual character's page. It is standard for a television show, especially a children's television show with the "everything is all right in the end" ending, to have all episodes in one list, instead of each having its own individual page. Only a small section of what happens in the episode needs to be detailed on the page, ie notable events in that episode (The one with the bridge falling, the one where Zebedee helps everyone out, the one where the place gets really icy). I think that we could use the comment found on the VHS releases as the small blurb section, and maybe pad it with a few additional facts.
  2. Keep a close watch on the episode listings. Last time I was about the listings constantly were changed around. The ONLY source of the episode listings we have is http://ftvdb.bfi.org.uk/sift/series/18678, so we have to go by that. It got a bit changed around by people who don't think that this is the case, but we have to go by it because its our source. If anyone thinks that its any other way, bring it up in discussion and we'll see what we can do.
  3. Consolidate pages on characters. I think we have too many separate pages on the characters of TUGS. I'm not sure if we need separate pages for the liners, the star tugs, the z-stacks, the other tugs, and everything else. I think maybe one page for the star tugs, one for Z-Stacks, and one for everyone else. This means that instead of having lots of small pages with not a lot of information, we can work on the fewer pages and make the information more notable.
  4. Japanese TUGS? Recently I've saw that a lot of the pages have had the sentence "In the Japanese version...". What is the deal with that? I mean, I've seen the YouTube videos, does this just mean that the episodes were redubbed and released over there? If anyone has more information than just who voiced them, then please discuss it on here, so we can add it on to the pages in an orderly manner.
  5. Improve information on Salty's Lighthouse and Theodore Tugboat. Initially i thought that we should distance ourselves from these articles, when really i've since realised that we should include these in our project. If we don't help out with these articles, not a lot of other users will, plus they are actually a lot to do with TUGS, especially Salty's Lighthouse.

There's a few other things I wanted to talk about, but I've forgotten them. If it comes back to me, I'll go back in and add more info, but as the title suggests, I think now its a call to arms. Remember, Wikipedia is the single biggest on-line source of information on TUGS, so we are the ones who must provide it.

Thank you for any help you are willing to give.

merge or deletion of tug characters.

I am a big tugs fan, but there really is too much about TUGS here that does not meet WP:FICT guidelines. Wikipedia is transitioning to moving most fictional works to other wikis (such as the tugs wikia) in this case. You can't find tugs in the Britannica. for example. Formdog (talk) 00:48, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree but i think you're fighting a losing battle by stating anything here. I posted the above comment here (as well as on the TUGS talk page) in an effort to get any users who are intersted to begin to try and clean up some of the articles. No-one replied. So i suggest that whatever work you feel these articles need, be bold, and do it yourself. --SteelersFanUK06 ReplyOnMine! 11:27, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

List of minor TUGS characters (in line with above debate)

In line with the above debate going on with the main characters of the story, i think that i am going to be bold over the next few days and merge Minor tugboat characters in TUGS, Other Vessels in TUGS, Cranes in TUGS, Barges in TUGS, Other Characters in TUGS and TUGS Liner Characters all into List of minor TUGS characters. This leaves us with only two articles to watch (the above and List of TUGS characters, once we get that sorted as well following the AfD) regarding characters as oppose to about 900. Obviusly I've not started yet as they're still reds (for now), but please feel free to leave some comments. --SteelersFanUK06 ReplyOnMine! 17:14, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I know what you mean. TUGS should be more talked about on the web in general!!!

←"List of recurring TUGS characters" and "List of minor TUGS characters" has now been created by me and Bladez636, and edited into the main TUGS page. New goal: sort out the character pages with redirects. Commence... --SteelersFanUK06 ReplyOnMine! 12:19, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Speedy Deletion of former TUGS articles

Please, STOP placing speedy tags on the articles which has recently been replaced with one of the "List of..." pages. This is not how it should go. These articles should be replaced with redirect pages to whatever is appropriate. That's the reason i went around quite a few pages and putting in redirects with the edit summary as "Bold redirect: [...]".

The reason for this is that there are still a number of links to these pages, which would then come up as red links and that's avoided when possible. As well as this, say for instance all red links were sent somewhere else, we still would have the problem of someone coming to that specific page looking for an article that was there before. They would then be sent to the new page; this is the whole point in redirect pages.

I've added back in the sd'd pages, as always i welcome any comments. --SteelersFanUK06 ReplyOnMine! 02:01, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
