Pyroteuthis is a genus of squid in the family Pyroteuthidae. It is differentiated from the genus Pterygioteuthis by size, head shape and behaviour. With the exception of the Tropical Eastern Pacific, the genus is circumpolar in tropical and temperate oceans.
