Sir Howard Stringer (born February 19, 1942) is a British businessman and naturalized American citizen. He serves as the Chairman and CEO of the Sony Corporation responsible for the whole of Sony including its media and electronics subsidiaries such as the Sony Computer Entertainment, Sony Music Entertainment, Sony Electronics, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Sony Financial Holdings.
Family
His younger brother is Rob Stringer, who is Chairman of Sony Music Label Group.
Background
He previously was head of the Sony Corporation of the Americas and was promoted to the company's top position because the previous CEO wasn't doing a good job and the profit and revenue of the company decline considerably while their competitors' increased like Samsung, Sharp and Panasonic. He came primarily from the media industry having worked at CBS among others. The company became a huge conglomerate with businesses in video, games, movies, electronics, finance that it had hard time making all of them work and interroperate. He is a naturalized United States Citizen and served in Vietnam in the U.S. Military.
