Management of map databases for in-vehicle navigational units is a major concern. As navigation units become more prevalent and perform more functions it is important to keep the maps they use up-to-date and extendable. This article is intended to provide information about underlying issues. I notice that you reference the ISO in your article. Here is a short quote:
