When I'm Alone I Cry
Appearance
When I'm Alone I Cry, another obscure early-1960s Marvin Gaye album was once again the soul singer's attempt to make another career for himself as a jazz vocalist. Gaye's fans though said the singer, while a great soul singer, was a "mediocre jazz vocalist" at best. After the album came and went in 1964, Gaye finally balked under pressure to record more R&B and soul and by the end of the decade had become one of the best-selling and most revered soul artists of his generation.
