Operating System-level Virtualization is a server virtualization technology which virtualizes servers above the operating system layer.

The operating system level architecture has low-overhead that helps maximizes server resources. The virtualization introduces only a small percentage of overhead and allows up to 100s of VPSs to run on a physical server.

Examples of this technology include [SWsoft's Virtuozzo], and Sun Containers.
