Daniel died to prove a political point.
Yosef from canada on wejew dot com states that Daniel was killed to prove that Journalists are not immune to the treatment inflicted on american spies such as Robert Baer's friends, and the sentence imposed on Julius and Ethel Rosenberg. Cohen was executed in martyr's square, damascus on the orders of his good friend Hafez al-Assad. He was a victim of political weakness on the part of the Alawite syrian ruling class, and a pawn in an espionage operation. Israel can ensure the return of Gilad Shalit by further increasing the price of Jewish blood, and ceasing to trade live criminals for dead soldiers.
