Copy Control Information is a flag included in digital television broadcasts. It specifies how content can be recorded.

The CCI flag can specify, at least, that a program can never be recorded, that it can be recorded only once, or that it can be copied freely. [1]

Broadcast television channels must be set to be copied freely, but no other restrictions are made on how the flags can be set. The flags can be set by cable television providers of their own volition. Some cable companies tend to set all programs as copy-once, preventing further distribution after a single PVR recording, and others tend to set all programs as copy-freely.[2]
