Hmmm... There is already a Wikipedia:WikiProject Maps. This page is sort of redundant. --seav 12:17, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, there is already a Maps project, with two ways to request maps, with suggested colors, style notices, and an ongoing and vibrant discussion page. That project pre-dates this by a couple of years. Please join in there! MapMaster 05:02, 13 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Is there, in fact, any point to this page? Maybe it should Improve maps rather than create them (e.g. vectorise). --Dave the Rave (DTR)talk 19:58, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Forum format

Since the graphics lab subpages are being updated . . . I'd be open to the idea of having a forum format like the graphics lab for maps, but have a couple of caveats - 1) I don't see any problem with using the general graphics lab for maps as it is now unless it's really getting overcrowded and 2) the reason Wikipedia:WikiProject Maps/Requested and orphan maps is dead is not because it isn't needed but due to a lack of cartographers to work on maps. I'm not sure switching to or adding a forum format is going to somehow make cartographers come out of the woodwork, but I don't think it'd hurt anything. As a side note I tend to work off of Category:Wikipedia requested maps more than Wikipedia:WikiProject Maps/Requested and orphan maps but I'm not sure anyone else does.
