This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Deskana (talk | contribs) at 18:08, 21 August 2008 (Protected Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee CheckUser appointments August 2008: nobody should be changing this... The Arbitration Committee is currently looking to appoint new CheckUsers. To protect the integrity of the decision, we do not disclose internal details of the decision or the process. Those users who genuinely may feel they meet likely CheckUser criteria may wish to have their names considered.

Candidates must...

  • Be over 18 years of age
  • Be of adult age in the country they reside in
  • Be an active administrator on the English Wikipedia
  • Be willing to formally identify themselves for legal purposes to the Wikimedia Foundation

Process

If you are interested in being considered for CheckUser access, please send an e-mail to Deskana, with the subject "CheckUser application" containing only your Wikipedia account name, confirmation of interest, confirmation that you meet the Wikimedia Foundation criteria, and confirmation that you will be willing to legally identify if appointed. E-mail applications will be accepted until 18:00, 28 August 2008, seven days after the posting of this message. All people who e-mail Deskana will have their names forwarded to the Arbitration Committee mailing list impartially, and without comment.

Interested users are requested to submit their names by email only. Users who have applied privately and not received a definitive answer from the Committee will be considered regardless, but may wish to send another e-mail in accordance with the instructions above to make sure that they are considered.

Community input

The community will be advised of our shortlist, and given an opportunity to submit comments and impressions of an impartial and salient nature, and where necessary, users are expected to be prepared to discuss thoughtfully with Arbitrators. Please note, however, that the final decision does rest with the Arbitration Committee.

We hope that the community appreciates us taking this step to make them more involved in the appointment of CheckUsers. Our decision to solicit input from the community is based solely upon your indications that you wished to be more involved.

For the Arbitration Committee,
