Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is an old revision of this page, as edited by MyResolution (talk | contribs) at 12:18, 19 August 2008 (I want to change my User Name: new section). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Simple username changes

This page hosts simple requests for a username change across the Wikimedia network. Requests are processed by stewards and global renamers.

Instructions
  1. Read Wikipedia:Changing username carefully. You must be aware of and understand all the implications of changing your username. Specifically:
    • Your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited, and in all log entries.
    • Your user pages, account preferences, and edits will be moved to the new name. Please do not create a new account or attempt to move them yourself.
    • Links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be created pointing to your new userpage.
    • Understand that using your real name as your username may put you at risk of harassment.
  2. Read the username policy and ensure your new name does not violate it. Usernames must not:
  3. Check that your new username is not already in use by searching for it on Special:CentralAuth. If the name is registered, even on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
If the target name hasn't made any edits to any Wikimedia project, you may request usurpation at meta:Steward requests/Username changes.
  4. Log in with your current username. Requests will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Place your request here.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=.
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=. Requests without a valid reason will not be approved.
    • Do not change anything else.
  6. Select Publish changes.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any inquiries regarding your request. Consider watching the page so you can monitor updates. Requests may be closed if there are unresolved queries.

Requests that do not follow these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

For stewards, global renamers, and clerks

Only stewards and global renamers have the authority to approve or decline requests. Requests are automatically clerked by a bot, but occasionally human intervention is required, particularly for malformed requests. If you would like to help out with clerking, please see Wikipedia:Changing username/Assistance.

Current requests

Lukeduval → Starkid1

Bureaucrat note: I also note that the article Luke Duval is WP:PRODed. I would wait to see the outcome of that before taking action here. =Nichalp «Talk»= 05:28, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note: Survived PROD. —Anonymous DissidentTalk 08:12, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: Starkid1 was created yesterday. Post a confirmation here with the Starkid1 account so we know it was you that created it. Also, do you still want us to rename Lukeduval to Starkid1, which would require usurping Starkids1, then renaming Lukeduval to Starkid1 (the new Starkid1)?RlevseTalk 20:27, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: Update seems all these cases of accounts already being created were an assault by the vandal Grawp on CHU. If you still want the requested account, let us know, but keep in mind you may not want an account name tainted by Grawp. Please advise. See [1] RlevseTalk 23:43, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
 Done RlevseTalk 10:06, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

LeBaron1 → Alinganster

 Bureaucrat note: Moved from WP:CHU/SUL. EVula // talk // // 15:42, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: Your requested username is very similar to an existing username, Alingana. Is there another name you'd be comfortable with? EVula // talk // // 15:45, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

dcb0sr → haron C Richardson - Senior Tutor

Bureaucrat note: To avoid future renames, I'd like you to state that you understand the dangers of using your real name (as witnessed by another rename request just a bit further down), and that putting temporary titles (such as "Senior Tutor") in usernames generally means you'll want it changed later. Would "Haron C Richardson" work for you? EVula // talk // // 15:10, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just to check the bureaucrats are aware, I'm pretty sure that the user wants to be Sharon C Richardson - the missing S in the title seems to be a typo. TSP (talk) 20:17, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Normiad → Laphinug

Bureaucrat note: Update seems all these cases of accounts already being created were an assault by the vandal Grawp on CHU. If you still want the requested account, let us know, but keep in mind you may not want an account name tainted by Grawp. Please advise. See [2] RlevseTalk 23:47, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: You've already migrated to the unified login system. Performing the rename will break your global account. Do you still want to be renamed? EVula // talk // // 16:28, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No —Preceding unsigned comment added by Normiad (talkcontribs) 18:25, 18 August 2008 (UTC) NO! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Normiad (talkcontribs) 18:26, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

 Not done Per Normiad's rather emphatic response. EVula // talk // // 18:35, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kemetstuff → Charry17

Not doneBlocked by Jpgordon as Grawp. RlevseTalk 15:06, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Err why was this blocked?

Bureaucrat note: Update seems all these cases of accounts already being created were an assault by the vandal Grawp on CHU. If you still want the requested account, let us know, but keep in mind you may not want an account name tainted by Grawp. Please advise. See [3] RlevseTalk 23:47, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
For your information: Grawp is one of the best known vandals on Wikipedia, and his name is well-recognised. —Anonymous DissidentTalk 08:04, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I know. RlevseTalk 16:57, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Roccowebb → Rocco Webb

Bureaucrat note: Roccowebb does not exist, just keep using Rocco Webb. RlevseTalk 15:22, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Rlevse, that was a mistake on the user's part. The current username is RoccoWebb, but they mispelled it as Roccowebb. Are you sure this should be declined? Soxπed93(blag) 22:22, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note:I'll go ask him on his talk. RlevseTalk 22:42, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Markvanwoert → Mark Van Woert

Markvanwoert (talk) 22:58, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk note: User "Mark Van Woert" is not registered. Please see WP:CHU instead. ClueBot VI (talk) 22:58, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Moved, but only for administrative reasons. Bureaucrats: take a look at this diff.Anonymous DissidentTalk 23:11, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not done Role accounts are not afforded the same luxuries, such as cosmetic renames, that positive contributors enjoy. EVula // talk // // 16:18, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ianweller → Ian Weller

Bureaucrat note: You've already migrated to the unified login system. Performing the rename will break your global account. Do you still want to be renamed? EVula // talk // // 18:09, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
How exactly does this break the unified login? Does the en.wikipedia username get detached from the rest and I have to change all the other names? --Ianweller (talk) 18:22, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly. You will need to request moves for each of your usernames on each wiki that you have created names on. You can re-unifi after that has been done. ---J.S (T/C/WRE) 00:18, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Errrrrm. Well, how about we not do this then? Whatever you need to do to cleanup this request as not done. --Ianweller (talk) 04:54, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's probably for the best, unless you have plans to change name everywhere. —Anonymous DissidentTalk 09:57, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not done per submitter's change in desire. RlevseTalk 10:09, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not done Your only edits have been to promote your website; you now want your name to be changed to something even more similar. EVula // talk // // 18:13, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mercedes cabral → Mercedes Cabral

Not done "Mercedes Cabral" appears to be a somewhat well-known Asian model, and your edits appear only to be self-promotional. EVula // talk // // 18:15, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
