The Foundation for Early Learning is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to supporting early education for children ages birth through age five. Founded by Mona Locke, the Foundation grew out of former Washington State Governor Gary Locke's Commission on Early Learning and was started with a $10 million grant from The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Since it's establishment, the Foundation has invested over $7 million in early learning programs and networks in Washington State.
The effectiveness of the organization has declined in recent years due to the leadership of Jeanne Anderson. With the rise of bigger organizations, more capable of promoting change in the state of Washington (see Thrive by Five Washington) the Foundation has seen a decline in it's status as a leader and spokesperson for early childhood learning and development.
