Who is Mscode3?

File:Mscode3.jpg

Mscode3 (Ms. Code 3) is a handle that I picked up when I worked in developing software for the public safety sector. Code 3 is the term for an emergency vehicle running with flashing lights and siren. Outside of cyberspace I'm known mostly as Linda. I am 50-something and have been a software engineer for over 30 years. When I started we did our programming on 80-column punch cards and it could take three days to get even the simplest program written, compiled and run. I live in San Diego, CA with my life-partner Karol and our two cats, Patches and Spots.

Interests

My primary interest after my family is Buddhism, especially Zen teachings of the Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh on "Engaged Buddhism". I also enjoy photography, reading mysteries and sci-fi, ancient history and both human and computer languages. In my "Day Job" I am a Senior product developer for [Peregrine Systems], a provider of market leading solutions for IT asset management and service management, where I work on the web-tier for our flagship ServiceCenter product.

WikiInterests

I am interested in getting as much information about all traditions, schools, lineages and practices of Buddhism as possible on Wikipedia. I am a member of the Wikipedia:WikiProject_Buddhism

Buddhism

I first encountered Buddhism when I lived in Korea and Hawaii in the 1970s. I studied the little that was available in English, mostly Alan Watts and the bit that I could read in Korean, but I really didn't get it. Then, years later, I began reading works by His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet and then I read Heart of the Buddha's Teaching by Thich Nhat Hanh. That is when I finally got the point! I have since taken refuge and recieved the Five Mindfulness Trainings at Thây's Deer Park Monastery. When I took refuge I recieved the dharma name Tâm Bi Nguyện, Compassionate Commitment of the Heart. I am a member of the San Diego Wat Lao Sangha and I am in the process of building the website for the sangha.
