The Hart Protocol is an early Fieldbus or Industrial Automation protocol. It's claim to fame is the fact that it can communicate over legacy 4-20ma instrumentation wiring, in effect sharing the pair of wires involved with older analog systems. According to some, due to the huge installed base of 4-20ma systems throughout the world, the Hart protocol is one of the most popular industrial protocols today!
