Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) is a set of tools included in the Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 operating systems to help diagnose and recover from serious errors which may be preventing Windows from booting successfully. WinRE may be installed to the hard disk or run from the operating system installation disc or booted from PXE. When installed on the hard drive, Windows Recovery Environment can be accessed by pressing F8 while the computer is booting. WinRE is based on WinPE 2.0.[1] Corporations can make WinRE available for network boot via a Windows Deployment Services server.
