A Development chef is often a classically trained restaurant chef that now works with one of the major food companies such as Marks and Spencer or Tesco to design chilled or frozen dishes. In a typical year own label food developers will come up with as many as 800 new products all designed and brought to market by development chefs. Anyone looking to become a development chef will either have a served in a professional kitchen or will have a food preparation qualification. There are however some gifted amateurs that make it through to become successful development chefs.
