Darwin was a programming game developed in the 1960s at Bell Labs by Victor A. Vyssotsky, Robert Morris Sr., and M. Douglas McIlroy. (Dennis Ritchie is sometimes incorrectly cited as a co-author, but was not involved.) A. K. Dewdney cites Darwin as an inspiration for Core War in his "Computer Recreations" article in Scientific American, May 1984 [1].
