A Data Element Name is a unique name given to a term in a Data Dictionary. In a formal Data Dictionary no two Data Elements may have the same name. In a sence the Data Element Name becomes the primary key of a Data Elements table of a Data Dictionary.

The Data Element Name is typically coforms to ISO-11179 Metadata registry naming conventions.
