Shortcut


This page was a temporary forum for the processing of username changes that related to the migration to single unified login (SUL) between June 2008 and April 2010. Prior to this, it served as a holding pen for requests that could not be completed due to bugs in the SUL renaming process.

Notes

  • When the rename has been completed, your account will have been renamed, and any contributions you have made (including deleted contributions) will be reattributed to your new account as a background process. Your account preferences, watchlist contents, password, etc. will all be preserved, and your user and user talk pages will have been moved to the new name.
    Note: The process responsible for reallocating old contributions is currently dependent upon the job queue mechanism. As such, you may find old contributions do not immediately appear under your new account; this is perfectly normal. Updates should take at most a day to complete, although the length of time will vary according to the size of the job queue on this wiki, and the status of the server processes which process this queue.
  • The change will appear in the user rename log and the request will be moved to the archives in the interest of transparency. It is not possible to rename accounts without an entry being created in the log.
  • This change will not affect signatures you have already left on talk pages, or other places where you signed your username with ~~~~. Those pages will continue to display your signature (including the link to your old username) unless edited manually.
  • Be aware: Once you have been renamed, your old account will no longer exist and may potentially be recreated by a third party. This is true even if your old account pages have been redirected towards your new account. To guard against impersonation, you may wish to recreate the old account yourself.

A global account is what is created when you use Special:Mergeaccount to merge all your Wikimedia accounts into one 'global' or 'unified' account that you can use on any WM project. Before any accounts with the same name as this global one can be moved, a steward needs to delete it (the global account). Requests can be made here. Diti is the username I use everywere, from my Mozilla LDAP account to other Wikimedia Foundation's projects. I plan to make an usurpation request to Wikipedia Spain as soon as this account is renamed (only one edit, my account on ES is DitiTux too). The user has made significant contributions including creating and then significantly editing what is now a fairly substantial article over a period of more than a year. The edits are clearly GFDL significant, has there been a policy change following SUL because it seems like something that requires community input. Last I heard the foundation/developers etc. were saying that cases on individual wikis were to be decided by the project-specific policy - have new orders been handed down? I am an active Russian Wikipedia user. Sometimes I also edit English Wikipedia, but pretty seldom - it is mostly wikification, interwiki, etc. I know there's an active English Wikipedia user Loki (with the small "k"), but I request for "LoKi" (with the large "K"). Third times a charm :-)
I have the global account "Micke" and I have twice before requested the username "Micke" here, the first time no edits hade been made by the user, but 8 days in to my request the user made a few edits. Second time around was a some time ago when SUL was first implemented for admins (I'm a sysop and bureaucrat at sv.wiki and a sysop at sv.wikinews), no policy was then available for SUL requests, so my request was turned down. I now understand that you have made some changes due to the full roll-out of SUL, so here I am again! I would love to have User:Micke moved out of the way so that I can complete my SUL-process (en.wiki is the only remaining conflict for me). MiCkE 13:21, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As I have waited for this for quite some time now, and there seems to be some technicult difficulties at this time, I'm quite content with having the other Micke moved out of the way so that I can start using "my" user name here. That means that rename of "Micke-sv" is not necessary for me. I'm aware that this will mean that I'll have two accounts, but thats nothing a redirect won't solve.
