Simple username changes

This page hosts simple requests for a username change across the Wikimedia network. Requests are processed by stewards and global renamers.

Instructions
  1. Read Wikipedia:Changing username carefully. You must be aware of and understand all the implications of changing your username. Specifically:
    • Your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited, and in all log entries.
    • Your user pages, account preferences, and edits will be moved to the new name. Please do not create a new account or attempt to move them yourself.
    • Links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be created pointing to your new userpage.
    • Understand that using your real name as your username may put you at risk of harassment.
  2. Read the username policy and ensure your new name does not violate it. Usernames must not:
  3. Check that your new username is not already in use by searching for it on Special:CentralAuth. If the name is registered, even on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
If the target name hasn't made any edits to any Wikimedia project, you may request usurpation at meta:Steward requests/Username changes.
  4. Log in with your current username. Requests will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Place your request here.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=.
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=. Requests without a valid reason will not be approved.
    • Do not change anything else.
  6. Select Publish changes.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any inquiries regarding your request. Consider watching the page so you can monitor updates. Requests may be closed if there are unresolved queries.

Requests that do not follow these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

For stewards, global renamers, and clerks

Only stewards and global renamers have the authority to approve or decline requests. Requests are automatically clerked by a bot, but occasionally human intervention is required, particularly for malformed requests. If you would like to help out with clerking, please see Wikipedia:Changing username/Assistance.

Current requests

Add new requests to the bottom of the page.

Wikieditor222 → RETIRED

Bureaucrat note: - Cannot rename user Wikieditor222 locally as this username has been migrated to the unified login system. Kingturtle (talk) 18:37, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You will need to ask a steward to delete your global account before you can be renamed locally. Requests can be made at m:SR/SUL. WjBscribe 10:02, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
A better solution is simply to use the {{retired}} template on your userpage. nneonneo talk 22:35, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AshleyWitchcrafter → JanetAshleyCP

- whether to change the username - or to add another account with a new username? I, originally, chose Ashley Witchcrafter because I wanted to create, edit, and/or add to articles to do with "metaphysical" properties of crystals, herbs, numbers, etc plus articles to do with witchcraft and Wicca. I do, officially, go by that name - and I have a website under that name. I don't consider it a commercial name - however, after re-reading your username policy, perhaps, I'm wrong. My website URL is: http://www.psican.org/Ashley/ashley.html Currently, I'm researching paleo events, which includes paleo extinction events. The North Atlantic Igneous Province is an article that does not exist. I would like to create the article. I feel that if I create an article that is not directly related to witchcraft or Wicca, then the AshleyWitchcrafter username may be considered inappropriate or open to ridicule, etc. Thank you. AshleyWitchcrafter (talk) 15:58, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As long as you don't promote a product or service with your username, it should be fine either way. What do you want us to do? AshleyWitchrafter is a perfectly fine username, but keep in mind Wikipedia's policies regarding attribution and sources when contributing and I don't see a problem with your plans. Andre (talk) 19:03, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: Ashley, feel free to edit any article under AshleyWitchcrafter. The username AshleyWitchcrafter does not violate any policy. All editors can edit any articles. Keep in mind that no editor has authority over a topic or an article. All articles here are edited through consensus. Kingturtle (talk) 12:16, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Andre and Kingturtle - I'll remain the same. AshleyWitchcrafter (talk) AshleyWitchcrafter (talk) 18:32, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not done - withdrawn by user. Kingturtle (talk) 23:39, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Freedomlinux → /dev/null

Not done - The username "/dev/null" is invalid. / is not allowed. Kingturtle (talk) 12:18, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for checking. I had a feeling the "/" would be problematic due to its use in the HTTP protocol. Freedomlinux (talk) 23:05, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Moment Theory→ Cmoney

Not done The name Cmoney (talk · contribs) is already taken. As the account has no edits, it can be usurped; to do so, place a request at Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations. Kingturtle (talk) 12:23, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Askinne → Askinn3

Not done - you seem to have gone ahead and created the new name anyway. WjBscribe 15:29, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No one → Morte

Not done - user name taken. Please note, although Rudget states "as this requested account has made no edits, it meets the criteria for being usurped", User:Morte does have some edits. So usurpation won't be automatic, but still may be possible. Kingturtle (talk) 23:44, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Deathaspect → Synchronization

 Not done Kingturtle (talk) 23:45, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Irwangatot → Jagawana

Clerk note: Jagawanna made only one edit on en.wiki on 7 Jan 2008. As the account only has one edit, to its userpage, you may be able to usurp it; to do so, place a request at Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations.RlevseTalk 21:18, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not done - as per Rlevse. Kingturtle (talk) 23:46, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merging of accounts

Thanks to Special:MergeAccount (< Wikimania 2008 in the Netherlands in October) my actual name is now everywhere in every mediawiki-project RobSchop. Question to a moderator or administrator: please merge in all English wikipedia my Dartelaar (=old name)-text, pages & settings like signature with this new name RobSchop. Thanks beforehand. Tell me what I should do manually (I checked already some boxes in RobSchop preferences).--RobSchop (talk) 01:33, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merge? I don't think we can do that. Andre (talk) 06:06, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, would you like me to usurp the name RobSchop with Dartelaar? You're on the wrong page (WP:CHU/U and you also need to log in with the old account. Andre (talk) 06:12, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Monkeyfood1 → Superman007

Not done, name is taken -- Andre (talk) 06:10, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: - Although the name Superman007 (talk · contribs) is already taken, the account has no edits, it can be usurped; to do so, place a request at Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations. Kingturtle (talk) 11:51, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Simon J Kissane → SJK

Not done, you have to log in with it anyway, and besides, we can't merge accounts. Andre (talk) 06:10, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jamessweney → Jim Sweeney

Clerk note: The requested username is already registered; see Special:CentralAuth. However, as this requested account has made no edits, it meets the criteria for being usurped; if you are an established user and wish to usurp it, please read and follow the process at m:Steward requests/Username changes. If you do not wish to usurp the username, please choose another name to be renamed to. --jonny-mt 08:34, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Added to usurp thanks for assistance Jim Sweeney (talk) 08:50, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not done - usurpation request made instead. WjBscribe 09:20, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Netrat_msk → Netrat

Not done The name Netrat (talk · contribs) is already taken. As the account has no edits, it can be usurped; to do so, place a request at Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations. Kingturtle (talk) 13:20, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User:The Shame of a City → The Shame of a City

Clerk note: The "User" prefix denotes userspace from article space. Thus, you cannot remove it from your username (as it isn't part of it). -Jéské (v^_^v E pluribus unum) 18:44, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: - please make the request from your logged in username. Kingturtle (talk) 18:55, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
 Not done -- Andre (talk) 00:50, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ebi → Ebertek

 Done Kingturtle (talk) 21:43, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orlière → mtr

Not done - Wikipedia's software requires all usernames to start with a capital letter. Also, User:Mtr already exists but meets the criteria for usurpation if you want to make a request on that page. WjBscribe 00:33, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vmbs → vmbs

Clerk note: Sorry, but the first character of a username must be capitalized. Useight (talk) 22:58, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
