NFC Institute of Engineering and Technology
The National Fertilizer Corporation of Pakistan is one of the largest employers of qualified engineers in Pakistan, particularly in the field of Chemical Engineering. In order to meet the requirement of trained manpower for chemical process industry, especially in the fertilizer sector, a Training Centre was established in 1985 with the technical assistance of M/s. COSMO International Co., Ltd., Japan. The Centre trains managers, engineers, supervisors, operators, and technicians through multi-dimensional programs that vary widely in content and duration for all types of process and engineering industry.
To further diversify the activities of the Centre and in line with the education policy announced by the Government of Pakistan, NFC, with the approval of the Ministry of Industries & Production of the Government of Pakistan, upgraded the Centre in 1994. It started to graduate engineering classes initially in Chemical Engineering discipline, and changed its nomenclature to “NFC Institute of Engineering & Technological training”. The program sought to address the need of the country and particularly of this area.
The degree programmes at NFC IET are affiliated with the Bahauddin Zakariya University in Multan. Pakistan's Engineering Council, the main body regulating Engineering education in the country recognized the “NFC Institute of Engineering & Technological Training", Multan, on the basis of its facilities and high standards of Engineering Education.
The first class of 45 students was admitted to the B.Sc. (Engineering) Chemical Engineering First Professional class for the 1993-97 session in April, 1994, and passed out in 1998, exactly after four years after their admission. Similarly, the second batch admitted in April 1995, graduated in 1999 and so on. The graduates are well placed in the Chemical/Process industry of Pakistan.
Students from all over Pakistan are undergoing studies for the pursuit of the Bachelor’s degree program in Chemical Engineering at the Institute. The Institute is located in close proximity to Pakarab Fertilizers Ltd., which is one of the biggest chemical process complexes in the country, and provides a strong technical backup to the Institute. The practical engineering education facilities which are available in the Institute, such as Distributed Control System (DCS), Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Miniature Plant provide added benefits to students in learning actual plant operation, process control, and plant optimization. These facilities have no parallel in other engineering institutions or universities of Pakistan.
Mid-Country Oil Refinery is a newly established petrochemical complex by PARCO and is the biggest employer of IET graduates. The refinery is about 60 kilometers from Multan and provides opportunity for Internships, student training, industrial tours and has proved a source of learning and technical collaboration for the IET students.
