Hyderabad Multi-Modal Transport System
Appearance
The first phase of the Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) was started on August 9 2004. The South Central Railway (SCR) is running close to 30 services a day, connecting Secunderabad and Lingampally on the city outskirts. Its unique feature is the connectivity between rail and road transport for the facility of the commuters. The first phase covers a distance of 43 km and 26 stations in both the Secunderabad-Lingampally and Hyderabad-Lingampally sections. A common ticket has been introducted to allow passengers to travel in MMTS trains and connecting buses.
Most of the MMTS services are spread across the 7:30AM - 9:30AM and 4PM - 6:30PM, the peak hours for the traffic. The trains also ply between 5AM to 10:30PM with a reduced frequency.

MMTS technical details
- ICF has manufactured Electric Multiple Units for the Hyderabad MMTS services. In a first ever endeavor of its kind, Railways and the State Government have agreed to equally share the cost of the rolling stock, as part of the cost sharing arrangement for the MMTS project.
- The challenge of coming up with a design meeting the expectations of new generation was taken up by ICF in dead earnest. Based on its own enriching Jana Shatabdi experience earlier during the year and discussions with the Hyderabad MMTS authorities, ICF has come up with a new design of EMU stock which fulfils the expectations of this rapidly growing, happening and modern twin-city.
- The coaches have been provided with an ergonomically designed drivers cab with all vital equipment bring arranged to be within easy reach of the motorman on a aesthetically pleasing design of prefabricated FRP drivers desk.
