STEP (STandard for the Exchange of Product model data) is an International Standards Organization (ISO) [1] Standard (ISO 10303) created for three dimensional representations of model information. STEP is based on an object-oriented language called EXPRESS that allows one to use classes to represent various aspects of three dimensional data, such as points, planes, vectors, etc. STEP was originally developed in 1984 through international collaboration to create a standard format that could be used across platforms. The development of STEP fell under the auspices of the International Technical Committee 184, Subcommittee 4 of the ISO [2].
