Distribution (computing)
Distribution can have at least two meanings in computer science:
- It can refer to distributed computing, the coordinated use of physically distributed computers.
- It can refer to a specific packaging of an operating system (usually a Unix-like system such as GNU/Linux) containing components such as the kernel, a toolchain, utilities and other software. See Linux distribution.
