Water Preservation
Today water preservation should be taken more seriously. According to BBC news children in Melborn, Australia are constantly reminded to preserve their water after a massive drought that took over their area. After the ten year drought the children are use to taking two minute showers along with using just buckets to water their garden and grass. Cars aren't washed, only mirrors and windows are cleaned. Because of similar effects all around the country, many Australians have become accustomed to these environmentally sound methods of preserving water. According to BBC News, this problem is due to the fact that many live in cities and the rivers and dams can not keep up with the demand. Sooner or later, this problem will be one that every continent will need to address. The current solution to these problems is to regulate the amount of water used for irrigation. The prime minister has put a law in effect for excess water usage. [1]
Food Crisis
With the problem of Global Warming at an all time high in current times, bio-fuels are constantly being created. Unfortunately this could be a bigger problem for the food crisis. As more biofuels are created, it will unintentionally add a jump to the food market. This, in turn, will create a massive hunger dilemma causing those who can barely afford food, to starve. This crisis has already seen beginnings in Europe where Europe has had to cut back on aiding other countries with food because of the rising cost. According to CNN hunger is the number one cause behind most all problems with children and adults in third world countries dying and becoming sick. The WHO (World Health Organization) views hunger as the number one crisis in the world since it is responsible for 10% of all child deaths. It was also mentioned that people of third world countries are being driven from their land for biofuel growing sites. [[2]]
Current Global Warming Awareness Problems
Recently, according to Fox News, there has been little change in American stand point on Global Warming. Though several people do care (around 37%) it hasn’t changed much since the mid nineties (35%). Though global warming can be the biggest environmental problem today, many don’t view it as a problem. After Ex-Vice President Al Gore made his movie, An Inconvenient Truth, many people began to think twice about the problem of global warming but because of some fatly information within Gore’s video, it was almost entirely discredited by some. The problem with Al Gore’s move was that it took a few shots from the movie “Day After Tomorrow” and called it their own. The shots from the Day After Tomorrow were fake and computer generated. It still stands that Americans should start paying more attention to the Greenhouse Effect theory and the idea of global warming. [[3]]
Douglas County Pollution
In Douglas County in north eastern Kansas, there is a slight pollution problem. In two thousand and two, Douglas County ranked in the top twentieth percent of most polluted county in America. The amount of toxin pollution is due to mainly the city of Lawrence where there is the Lawrence Energy Plant and the Nitrogen Plant for Farmers INDS. Inc., who also pollutes the air more than any other plant in Lawrence. Douglas County also ranks very high in the water pollution area. The other major air polluters in Douglas County are Western Resources, and the FMC Corporation. Douglas County was in the top 20% of all counties for Air Pollution in nineteen ninety nine. This was much worse than Douglas County’s neighboring county of Johnson County who has reached the top 10% of the worst counties for air pollution in 1999. However, Johnson County ranked in the top 20% cleanest of toxin pollution in 2004. [4]
