A Compression Driver is very commonly a tweeter that will be used in a horn loaded speaker.

It is called "compression" because it reduces (compress) the area of the diaphragm by a ratio that can be as small as 10 to 1.

For tweeter, usually the interface to the horn is done using a threaded interface, other oprtions include screws and the compression plug might include a "phase plug" for optimizing peaks and dips in the response.
