Openmoko Linux is a software platform for smartphones developed by FIC. It is a general-purpose Linux distribution comprising various pieces of free software[1].

Unlike most other mobile phone platforms, the phones on which Openmoko Linux runs are designed to provide end users with the ability to modify the operating system and software stack. The platform is also supported by other mobile phones listed here: [2]

Openmoko Linux is part of the Openmoko project to create a family of completely open source mobile phones[3].

Components

Openmoko Linux uses the Linux kernel, together with a graphical user environment built using the X.Org Server, GTK+ toolkit and the Matchbox window manager. The OpenEmbedded build framework and ipkg package system are used to create and maintain software packages.[4]

Software Development

Native applications can be developed and compiled using the C or C++ languages[5].
