A commentator is an individual who comments on sports, politics, current events, or public issues. Synonyms include pundit.

Sports commentators usual broadcast live during the sporting events that they are describing. They have to be careful to avoid saying very funny things. Here are some examples of the kind of mistakes that can happen if a commentator is not careful:

  • "This is like deja vu all over again." - Yogi Bera
  • "If history repeats itself, I should think we can expect the same thing again"
