Common name-Catmint,Catnip Botanical Name-Nepeta cataria Family- Labiatae(mint) small anual herb(weed in some countries) Common Uses- to exite and interest Felines,ornamental,herbal tonic Parts used- aerial Medicinal actions- antispasmodic, carminative, digestive stimulant, promotes sweating, cooling. Active constituents- Metatabilacetone, nepatalactone, nepetalic acid Effects on cats- calminative, exiting, interesting, euphoric, attractant. Efect on humans- relaxing,euphoric,calming Remedial actions- (as with cats some humans are more effected than others)cools fevers, helps ease menstral cramps, see above(medicinal actions) also enhances the effect of other substances. Usage-steeped in teapot for soothing tea, smoked alone or mixed equal parts Contra indications- no harmul effect known History- was poppular beverage in early Europe before Indian and Chinese tea were introduced
