Article Inclusion Criteria for WikiProject Robotics
This WikiProject spans several subjects other WikiProjects overlap, therefore we have restricted our project scope to the following:
Article subjects that are within this WikiProject's scope
- Robots and robotics theory
- Applications
- Parts, products and services
- Production and manufacturing
- Research and development
- History
Article subjects that may or may not fit this WikiProject's scope
- Businesses or corporations which sell robots or do research and development in robotics
- Schools that host or field teams in robotics competitions
- Biographies of persons who have shown great importance in the robotics community worldwide
- Notable films, novels or comics that have robotics themes
- Other cases will be handled and approved by consensus on a case-by-base basis
It's likely that some of you will create articles on these subjects, and that's great, Wikipedia needs them. But there are already portals for those things (Portal:Business_and_Economics, Portal:University, Portal:Biography), and there are many entertainment portals, and Wikia.com (a sister site to Wikipedia) also has a vast number of pages on films, novels and comics. You'll probably want to look at some of these links to see if what you want to do has been done already.
We'll be happy to mention your articles here if you point out the connections to robotics as well as provide multiple reliable sources to verify notability. Articles on fictional material must satisfy WP:FICT, major robotics teams must have clear notability as well as satisfy WP:ORG. Biographies of living persons must satisfy WP:BLP as well as providing multiple citations that directly ties into the field of robotics. Generally businesses in the robotics industry will have separate robotics divisions, and these divisions should be the articles with our tag. Miscellaneous articles will be handled on a case-by-case basis, but generally the subjects need to be notable and related to robotics. - Dan Dank55 (talk) 04:05, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
Article subjects that do not fit this WikiProject's scope:
- Biographies of living persons with indirect, unclear notability, or insufficiently cited ties to robotics.
- Fiction works in which robotics is indirectly placed in setting, but not heavily focused (such as Star Trek (the movies, TV series, novels, etc.) [1], Star Wars [2], and others)
- Middle/High school articles which feature robotics clubs/teams as a section. These articles are better suited for WP:SCH (and WP:UNI for universities). It is clear that if the section of the team/club could not survive on its own as an article and is forced to piggyback off of the school's article, that it most likely will not satisfy WP:ORG and WP:N. In addition, unless the school itself is completely robotic (which there is none that I am aware of), the article's subject itself does not have a direct enough connection to robotics to be included into this WikiProject's scope.
- Businesses with (multiple) subsidiaries which may have connections with robotics or have little or no direct ties to robotics. These businesses may have sections on its subsidiaries to robotics, but the business itself cannot be completely associated to robotics alone. This is an extension to the businesses with unknown ties to robotics which "may or may not" satisfy our scope in the above section. In addition, business which use robotics or automation processes in their production process does not satisfy our WikiProject scope because too many businesses use automated processes for this selection.
- Articles which are tagged with this WikiProject's Project Banner on its talk page should have the tag removed. (and document this removal on its talk page in case another editor wishes to disagree and chooses to participate in a discussion in proving the article's notability, etc.) If this article was tagged by mistake and it clearly has nothing to do with robotics whatsoever, feel free to enact your power as a Wikipedia editor to remove the project tag.
Article Coverage Guidelines
DRAFT
The core nature of this WikiProject is based off of any and all works of robotics. This translates to a more difficult process when examining and establishing one centralized standard for articles related to robotics, which now cover robot models, research, robotics manufacturers, even anime/cartoons/comic books/movies/other literary works related to robots.
With this in mind, the official guidelines for robotics-related articles will be as follows:
For all WikiProject Robotics articles, all articles shall follow the respective guidelines bound by other WikiProjects' article guidelines if by following those guidelines will effectively and concisely cover the article's subject:
- For notable robotics-related living persons: follow WP:BLP as well as WP:BIO
- For robotics products: follow WP:PRODUCT
- For robotics companies/manufacturers: follow WP:COMPANY
- For fictional topics, follow WP:FICT in addition to:
For all articles, always use proper style (See WP:MOS). Remember to cite your sources properly (WP:CITE).
![]() | This set of article guidelines is a draft. It is currently considered tentative and incomplete and will not be operative until consensus to adopt them has been reached. |
