In chemistry, the reactants (also called reagents) are the substances that exist at the start of a chemical reaction. During the course of a reaction, the reactants form one or more products. In a chemical equation, the reactant is placed to the left of the arrow:

Reactant(s) → Product(s)

Limiting reactant

A limiting reactant is a chemical that stoichiometrically limits the amount of products that can be formed.
