Open architecture is a type of computer architecture that allow users to upgrade their hardware in all of the computer components (for example an IBM-PC compatible has an open architecture). This is the contrary of a closed architecture, where the hardware manifacturer choose the components one times for all (for example an AMIGA-500 home computer has a closed architecture).
