Simple username changes

This page hosts simple requests for a username change across the Wikimedia network. Requests are processed by stewards and global renamers.

Instructions
  1. Read Wikipedia:Changing username carefully. You must be aware of and understand all the implications of changing your username. Specifically:
    • Your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited, and in all log entries.
    • Your user pages, account preferences, and edits will be moved to the new name. Please do not create a new account or attempt to move them yourself.
    • Links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be created pointing to your new userpage.
    • Understand that using your real name as your username may put you at risk of harassment.
  2. Read the username policy and ensure your new name does not violate it. Usernames must not:
  3. Check that your new username is not already in use by searching for it on Special:CentralAuth. If the name is registered, even on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
If the target name hasn't made any edits to any Wikimedia project, you may request usurpation at meta:Steward requests/Username changes.
  4. Log in with your current username. Requests will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Place your request here.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=.
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=. Requests without a valid reason will not be approved.
    • Do not change anything else.
  6. Select Publish changes.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any inquiries regarding your request. Consider watching the page so you can monitor updates. Requests may be closed if there are unresolved queries.

Requests that do not follow these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

For stewards, global renamers, and clerks

Only stewards and global renamers have the authority to approve or decline requests. Requests are automatically clerked by a bot, but occasionally human intervention is required, particularly for malformed requests. If you would like to help out with clerking, please see Wikipedia:Changing username/Assistance.

Jonathan → Titanium dioxide

This would be the users second rename, and conventionally the last one. It would be wise to make sure you are totally sure before doing this, as it will probably not happen again. Soleil (talk) 02:28, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: Hi Jonathan, as Soleil says we don't like to keep renaming people as it puts a certain strain on the database. You were renamed to a name likely to be pretty popular a few months ago, are you sure you want to be renamed again so soon? If so be certain that this is the username you really want (rather than just a passing fashion) as you'd probably find it pretty hard to find a crat willing to rename you again. WjBscribe 02:34, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Fine, i guess. Jonathan (talk) 03:19, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: Do you still want us to do it? Secretlondon (talk) 21:48, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No thanks. Jonathan 02:41, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
 Not done - request withdrawn. WjBscribe 12:52, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

CURRENT → NEW

Bureaucrat note: What you you like to be renamed to? WjBscribe 02:33, 9 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not done - more than a week without clarification from requestor. WjBscribe 00:51, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Jamais cascio → Jamais Cascio

Bureaucrat note: All requests need to be made by the account to be renamed; this request was made by 64.142.27.19 (talk · contribs). Please log in and confirm this request. WjBscribe 17:23, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

F3nr15 → F3nr15

Clerk note: MediaWiki software conflicts with your username - you cannot have a username starting in lowercase due to technical limitations. -Jéské (Blah v^_^v) 08:09, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not done - usernames must start with an uppercase letter. WjBscribe 00:52, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cmsoma → Conrad E Msoma

Bureaucrat note: are you here to contribute to the encyclopedia? So far your only contribution seems to be writing about yourself at User:Conrad E Msoma. WjBscribe 02:17, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Chrisranders → Cranders

Clerk note: Remove the redirect and stop spamming us via the userpage, please. -Jéské (Blah v^_^v) 08:38, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
How is he “spamming us via the userpage”? Jon Harald Søby (talk) 10:44, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
He's trying to advertise his blog? Secretlondon (talk) 20:51, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
His history and sig suggest he is planning to use his UP to spam his blog, and he has adopted the userpage of the target username as his "official wiki". Further, he has only edited his own userpage. -Jéské (Blah v^_^v) 05:36, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note: Cranders is already taken and has edits. WODUP 05:51, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
 Not done. WjBscribe 00:53, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Gangleri → לערי ריינהארט

Clerk note: Usernames with non-latin characters are difficult to understand and your reason for the name change is unreadalbe because it is not written in english. Please provide an english reason for your request Alexfusco5 23:42, 15 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The link yi:יידישע וויקיפעדיע#לערי_ריינהארט links to a project of the Wikimedia Foundation the Yiddish Wikipedia.
The section points to « לערי ריינהארט » ; the transcription is « lɛʁi ʁɑjnhɑʁt » ; That's me.
Best regards
‫·‏לערי ריינהארט‏·‏T‏·‏m‏:‏Th‏·‏T‏·‏email me‏·‏‬ 00:01, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note: If your name is changed here (Which I assume it will be per Unified Login), could you redirect its English equivalent to your userpage to minimize confusion and make it easier for users to contact you? -Jéské (Blah v^_^v) 01:21, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see what any issue would be here. He wants the name “לערי ריינהארט” - it‘s a simple copy-paste. And redirects are created automatically during renames, so unless you delete them when renaming, that’s a non-issue. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 10:53, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: I'm conscious that renames to non-latin usernames have been declined in the past - see [1], [2] - and a related discussion at the Bureaucrat noticeboard. I'm a little reluctant to unilaterally change the approach to these and find Cecropia's argument quite persuasive. Given the inconvenience likely to be caused to other users, are renames to non-latin names desirable? WjBscribe 18:59, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I generally agree with you. The only counter argument is single user login which may or may not happen. Secretlondon (talk) 20:52, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have no objection to this. Unicode fonts are daily more common; copy-and-paste is easy enough. Surely Gangleri will be considerate enough to make the transliteration clear (perhaps in a signature or some such). This is a hard-working and longtime contributor who might just as well have registered his username in Hebrew to begin with (new usernames, contradictorily, are allowed to contain non-Latin characters). Refusing to change his name now seems purposelessly punitive. — Dan | talk 08:02, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tebepizdetssuka → ALFAgru<vodka>

Bureaucrat note: Doesn't look like the software will accept the use of the characters "<" and ">" - the rename interface wouldn't perform the change. Please choose an alternative name to be renamed to. WjBscribe 02:12, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not done - user chose an alternative name and has been renamed. WjBscribe 01:00, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

YumYumCummings → HSMman

Clerk note: All requests must be made while logged in to the account that will be renamed; this request was made by 67.87.225.29 (talk · contribs). Please log in to the account that is to be renamed and confirm this request. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alexfusco5 (talkcontribs) 02:15, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not done - (1) you weren't signed in when you requested the rename and (2) YumYumCummings (talk · contribs) has no edits so may as well just create a new account. WjBscribe 02:18, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I can see something wrong with the username - it's sexual in nature ("Cum"). However, do we know YYC actually exists as a user? -Jéské (Blah v^_^v) 10:20, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. WODUP 14:41, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Cummings is a surname though. Whether they are using it as a felatio reference is another question. Secretlondon (talk) 00:26, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Miss Pussy Galore → Urban Rose

Bureaucrat note: Personally I think its a harmless James Bond reference -its a fairly mild innuendo given "pussy" is a common term for a cat. If you want to change it that's fine, but I'm not convinced it violates the username policy. WjBscribe 00:59, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Michael.parente → Michael Parente

Clerk note: Requests are to be made by the user wanting renaming; this request was filed by 75.197.118.74 (talk · contribs). Please log in and sign to confirm this request. -Jéské (Blah v^_^v) 10:18, 17 December 2007 (UTC) Confirmed. -Jéské (Blah v^_^v) 03:02, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
 Done Secretlondon (talk) 03:19, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Gemmamauro@gmail.com → londonparties.co.uk

Clerk note: Please specify a different username, as you may not want your email address to be shown (which is acceptable), however the username you have requested is promotional, thus violating the username policy; so please choose another name. Thanks, Qst 16:46, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: Blocked as clearly only using WP for promotional reasons, all contributions promotional. Why didn't WP:UAA pick up on this - I didn't used to have to block these myself.. Secretlondon (talk) 00:34, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
 Not done Secretlondon (talk) 00:34, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Eastcoastliving → East Coast Living

Clerk note: This user appears to have a COI, as seen by their contribs; so this request may be declined. Qst 16:45, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not done User blocked for coi and promotional username. Secretlondon (talk) 00:18, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Richland Internet → Diana76

Done However you still can't promote your internet businesses. Thanks. Secretlondon (talk) 00:36, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rajeevarya → Ram rejeev

Clerk note: Moved from WP:CHU/U [3]. No reason provided, as Usurpation does not require one, so a bureaucrat may wish to overlook the empty reason field. Qst 16:43, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note:: Reason is bleedingly obvious and not needed.Secretlondon (talk) 00:28, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

BicesterCommunityCollege → Bicester Community College

Clerk note: Please 1) Provide a reason for requesting this rename 2) Choose another name, usernames are not allowed to be promotional, per Wikipedia's username policy. Qst 20:26, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: You don't need to provide a reason for obvious capitalisation issues, it's really obvious why they want a rename. However I've blocked for WP:COI, WP:ROLE, promotional and a bad case of WP:OWN. Secretlondon (talk) 00:28, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
 Not done Secretlondon (talk) 00:28, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bureaucrat note: Or they were, this is another one that I've had to block instead. What's going on with WP:UAA? Secretlondon (talk) 00:38, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not done blocked. Secretlondon (talk) 00:38, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RayquazaDialgaWeird2210 → CrashStopperNo1415

Clerk note: Renaming accounts does not change your password, and you need an email address set on your account for someone to attempt to do account recovery, if I recall correctly. -Jéské (Blah v^_^v) 23:47, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note: User's problem logging in seems to be resolved, RayquazaDialgaWeird2210 has edited today since after this request was made. Do you still want to change your account name? Please confirm this is you making the request. (I have left a note on User talk:RayquazaDialgaWeird2210) —Random832 18:07, 18 December 2007 (UTC) -- update: user has withdrawn this request. —Random832 21:38, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not done per above. WjBscribe 01:15, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WTF its Eamon → Its Eamon

Done though that seems rather a severe reading of the username policy to me... WjBscribe 12:38, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note: Is your name actually Eamon? -Jéské (Blah v^_^v) 20:02, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: It's an Irish first name, the singer doesn't have a monopoly on it, and they haven't edited on anything to do with the singer. I'm also amazed that you can get blocked for WTF Secretlondon (talk) 00:50, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note: I am well aware of that, but the username policy does state that unless you actually have that as your name, you cannot have the name of a well-known living person. I was going to suggest that he tag his userpage with something to that effect, that's all. I've rephrased my note. -Jéské (Blah v^_^v) 00:54, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think pop stars can have a veto over common first names, if they had the first name and surname of a celebrity then maybe. Secretlondon (talk) 01:01, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Frankrynne → Opiumjones 23

Bureaucrat note: You understand that a record of the rename will be entered into the rename log, which is a little obscure but publicly viewable? Redirects from your own account could be deleted but (because block logs don't move on renaming) I would have to add an entry to the block log of your new account noting the previous blocks. Do you still want to be renamed? WjBscribe 12:48, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes pls change opiumjones 23 (talk) 14:51, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
