I've had a go at updating the entry. But I'm a newcomer at NIPS, so it might be a little off.

Shouldn't the sentence "..and the conference spans a lot less wide range of topics." instead read "..and the conference spans a lot *wider* range of topics." ? This is what I understand from the text before that point.
